It’s an end of an era as Shameless concludes
Showtimes’ Shameless has officially concluded after 11 glorious seasons.
When it came to watching the show, I was late to the game. There were probably over seven seasons I needed to catch up on when I first started.
I remember it like it was yesterday. It was the fall of 2016, and I had just found out I was pregnant with my first child. I needed a good show to binge (to help keep my mind off of the discomforts of pregnancy). And I wanted a show with plenty of seasons to get lost into.
I turned on Netflix, and here was a show that piqued my interest.
I started watching. My first thought was, “Wow, there’s a lot of drinking on this show.” A natural observation for pregnant women who can’t consume alcohol.
It was a fun show! And each of the characters had their appeal. As I faded into the seasons, I almost felt like I was one of the Gallaghers. I was immersed in watching their challenges and triumphs. And what could they get away with next?
Fast forward to the present day.
I must have been living under a rock because I missed the kick-off for the final season. Not that I minded because that meant I had plenty of episodes to binge!
And the funny thing about my final Shameless binge. I’m pregnant with baby number two! Finishing my Shameless journey almost exactly how it began. Perfect bookends.
I don’t want to give away the details, especially those who may still be catching up. But as you can probably imagine, it was an emotional farewell. I’ll miss my television friends I made over the last four years of catching up.
I’m thankful I got to experience the ride. Watch them all grow and develop.
And finally, to Frank Gallagher, I tip my hat to you. You lived life on your terms. I’m such a rule follower, and your crazy antics taught me that life is short and to have some fun along the way.
